BCA Staff Details

Matt Shumski is excited to serve as High School Director of Bridge Charter Academy. With over fifteen years of experience in education, Matt has taught a wide range of secondary social studies courses and grown into leadership roles focused on supporting familes, students and educators. Before stepping into his current position, he led the Career and Technical Education program and supervised Educational Coaches at Bridge, helping to build strong, student-centered learning communities and develop the high school.

Matt is also an independent researcher and writer specializing in alternative schools, offering fresh insights and practical perspectives while exploring new ideas and solutions in education. He deeply values personalized learning and respects the unique strengths and opportunities of home-based education.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Matt earned both a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Temple University (2011) in Philadelphia, which included a memorable study abroad in Rome. In 2022, he completed a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from the University of Oregon.

Outside of Bridge, Matt enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle, plays the drums, explores ideas through reading, podcasts, and conversation, and takes on home projects and travel.
